Graphic Novels: Britt is eager to see graphic novels for younger reader and middle grade audiences. She is a huge fan of contemporary middle grade stories that feel accessible and relatable to today’s readers, such as Awkward, Swim Team and Frizzy. She also loves a distinct art style that instantly grabs the reader’s attention. Britt would love to see more funny, contemporary stories that focus on real-life, everyday experiences and lift up the reader. In all projects, Britt is looking for new perspectives, fresh takes, and a tight narrative.  

Illustrated Prose: Britt would absolutely love to see more illustrated chapter book and middle grade prose projects in the vein of the Amelia Fang series and The Last Kids on Earth. She’s a big fan of outrageous humor and a fast paced narrative that leaves the reader wanting more, more, more!

What Britt is Not a Good Fit For:

Katie is excited to take on both genre-specific prose for young adult and adult audiences, as well as graphic novels for all ages. She is intimately familiar with graphic novels and illustrated works as she has assisted on dozens of graphic novels since 2023. She also has experience with prose projects and is looking to build a list focusing on fantasy, romance, science-fiction (dystopian and light sci-fi), or any unique take on those genres aimed at adult audiences. In every query she looks for a commercial concept with clear comp titles, great writing and a distinct voice. She’s a sucker for stories that feature sister relationships, found family, heists or trials, academia, gothic elements and inventive magic systems.

Prose:

  • High-concept, grounded fantasy: would specifically love to see clever speculative stories in the vein of Six of Crows and historical-inspired speculative stories with accessible poetic prose like A Study in Drowning, Divine Rivals, and Lovely War.
  • grounded dystopian romance in the vein of Daggermouth
  • speculative contemporary romance

  • fantasy and/or romance with strong horror or mystery elements

Graphic Novels:

What She is NOT a Good Fit For:

  • Contemporary MG prose
  • Miscommunication trope
  • Space opera, cyberpunk and technologically heavy sci-fi
  • Non-fiction and literary fiction

Phoebe is actively growing her list, and has a particular interest in Sci-Fi and Fantasy. She’s always interested in stories by queer and BIPOC authors, and she’s excited to help writers develop their projects in a way that feels most authentic to each of them. This is what’s currently at the top of her wish list:

  • Science Fiction grounded in reality – stories that either warp aspects of everyday life, or explore everyday life in a new world
  • 21st century Magical Realism/Fabulism
  • Sci-Fi and Fantasy blended with elements from other genres like mysteries, romances, etc. Urban Fantasies, Sci-Fi legal dramas, and other creative crossovers are VERY welcome!
  • Stories with unusual narrators or perspectives
  • Expertise; a thorough understanding of the crafts, trades and technologies involved in the plot

She is not a good fit for:

  • Extremely high Sci-Fi/Fantasy with massive worlds, in the vein of DUNE or A GAME OF THRONES
  • Aesthetic over plot
  • Talking down to the reader

Carleen is actively building her list of both adult fiction and adult nonfiction. In fiction, she tends to gravitate toward a more upmarket or literary voice, though she will also look at commercial works. Her tastes span widely from very quiet, everyday stories to odd or unsettling atmospheres, and everything between. In nonfiction, her aim is to find niche topics that appeal to a wide audience. Authors with clear knowledge of their subject and a talent for making an emotional connection with readers are who she tends to gravitate toward in nonfiction.
